Pender County

Established in 1875, Pender County was named after the Confederate General William Dorsey Pender, who was mortally wounded at the battle of Gettysburg. It was previously a part of New Hanover County until that time. Its county seat is Burgaw.

Having grown 15 percent since 1990, Pender County is the fastest-growing county in North Carolina. With a population of 34,000, Pender County has a labor force of 13,992 and a per capita income of $15,497.

Pender County has much historic significance with many sites listed ion the National Register of Historic Places such as Bannerman House, Belvidere Plantation House,  Poplar Grove, as well as it’s own Brunswick County Courthouse.

Perhaps Pender County’s most well-known historic attraction, however, is Moore’s Creek Battlefield, the site of the first Patriot victory of the Revolutionary War.
